PAC (Political Action Committee)

 

Political Action Committee represents the Empower pillar of our chapter, which focuses on the legislative and action-oriented organizing aspects in local, statewide, and nationwide affairs. Political Action is also responsible for engaging with local political stakeholders, analyzing and researching  data-based policies that affect BIPOC Communities, collaborating with other politically active organizations, and actively participating and supporting in direct actions.

PAC Taskforces:

 

Policy Research Taskforce

​

  • Organizes and researches UC, local, state and nationwide policies and collaborates with the Legislative Liaison in proposing legislation to improve the constituent community.

  • Keeps the National Office and the Unit informed of all proposed legislation which affects minority groups

  • Forms proposed contexts, questions and policy solutions for upcoming Forums for the distribution of information

Legislative Taskforce

​

  • Drafts resolutions and puts immanent items up for full NAACP membership vote. 

  • Works for the enactment of municipal, state and federal legislation designed to improve the educational, political and economic status of BIPOC groups. 

  • Seeks the repeal of racially discriminatory legislation (Ex. ACA 5)

  • Supports ComCoord to empower students in high school in navigating the politics of their systems to extract maximum resources

    • Existing outlets of understanding what to do to react to racism experienced in high school.

    • Santa Cruz Tenant Associations in empowering Santa Cruz and UCSC tenants. 

 

Civic Engagement Taskforce

  • Manages database of campus and community organizers and organizations

  • Supports EvCo in organizing trainings to equip community members with political empowerment

  • Leads the re-launch of UCSC Ethnic Students of Color

  • Seeks to increase registration and voting (Census)

  • Directs and assists in the implementation of the Cross Community Coalition and organizes/communicates with the Community Action Network.

    • CAN liaison. col

    • Regulatory overlap where CE presents to ComCord, PAC collaborating with EvCo on information. Developing media

    • Census campaign

Cross Coalition Committee Solidarity Taskforce

​

  • Attends the bi-weekly meetings with ComCord and EvCo and composes presentations on the research and work being conducted under the Political Action Committee 

  • Represents the Political Action Committee and serves as the voice of PAC during the meetings, and briefs other members on PAC projects. 

  • Strategizes ideas about externalizing information on events, actions, briefs, and reports to the Communications Department.
